What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lighting Designer; Disney Live Entertainment position at Walt Disney Imagineering?

The Lighting Designer manages all aspects related to the creation of new live show lighting designs, and remounts of existing seasonal shows for the Walt Disney World Resort and Disney Cruise Line.

You will report to the Lighting Designer Principal.

Responsibilities :

Responsibilities/You Will

  • Develop lighting designs for live shows and facility infrastructure as assigned
  • Support other lighting designers through show programming and infrastructure/systems design
  • Realize and maintain the design intent through the production of the creative process
  • Participate in project's creative development
  • Develop and provide input to project lighting budgets and labor requirements
  • Stay current with lighting technology research and development efforts within industry
  • Partner with Consultant Lighting Designers and vendors to ensure Disney quality, compatibility, training and proper documentation of all lighting services delivered
  • Be a resource to maintain the proper training of operating area lighting Technicians
  • Conduct ongoing "Entertainment Show Quality" evaluations of existing offerings at Walt Disney World and provide support to maintain their original show intent
  • Maintain up-to-date show documentation and lighting R&D lab

Basic Qualifications :
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Entertainment Industry working in show development and operation of live shows
  • Working knowledge of current technology and industry standards for all aspects of lighting design, (theatrical, industrial, concert, or touring) as applied to live show and facility systems
  • Proficiency in programming and operating multiple types of lighting consoles and controls
  • Proficiency in computerized drafting programs
  • Experience supporting the creative process by working with other Designers, Directors, Writers and Producers
  • Experience working in collaboration with a Master Electrician and lighting crew to prioritize, organize, instruct and trouble shoot during installation, focus and cueing through delivery of project
  • Proficiency in basic computer functions necessary to operate in a Windows environment and industry specific software
  • Understanding of facility design, engineering and construction
  • Schedule availability to include weekends, variable shifts and holidays
  • Ability to travel domestically or internationally

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience and understanding of facility design, engineering and construction
  • 2 years experience in live show development with The Walt Disney Company
  • Experience working with laser light technologies
  • Knowledge of the Walt Disney culture

Required Education :
  • College degree or equivalent experience in theater with a focus on live show lighting
