Head Custodian - Evenings

Walsh Jesuit High School is seeking a Head Custodian who is responsible for leading the custodial team to provide a safe and clean work environment for students and staff. This position is a working supervisor and is expected to lead the crew by example as a hard-working member of the Walsh Jesuit community. The Head Custodian plays a vital role in supporting campus operations and reports to the Campus Operations Supervisor. Work hours are generally 3:00 pm – 10:30 pm Monday – Friday, with some overtime expected.

Major Responsibilities:

Team management

• Work with the COO and Campus Operations Supervisor to lead the team efforts for all aspects of building cleaning and operations support
• Assist in annual performance reviews, disciplinary action, and communication with day shift
• Communicate daily events and special activity needs to the crew
• Ensure crew is following appropriate OSHA safety requirements
  
  
  

Building cleaning/Operations support

• Work to establish protocols for all aspects of building cleaning including, mopping, resilient floor care, vacuuming, dusting, deep cleaning, carpet scrubbing, window cleaning, waste removal, and other duties as assigned
• Manage and order custodial supplies with special attention to ensuring good vendor relationships and pricing
• Keep the exterior of the building free from litter
• Assist with event setups and tear downs
• Respond to and track completion of custodial ticket requests
• Assist with snow removal between outsourced plowing and salting
• Assist with management of pest contract
• Perform thorough building cleaning in the summer months
• Perform any task assigned by school administration on an “as needed” basis including, on occasion, assisting other personnel in the school in the performance of their duties
• Display initiative in problem solving, be of assistance to visitors, and contribute to the school in a positive and proactive manner
  
  
  

School-wide support/Coordination

• Coordinate with other school departments such as Advancement, Admissions, Athletics, Summer Camp, etc. for special event needs
• Coordinate with kitchen staff for cleaning needs
• Communicate with department heads when spaces are being left unreasonably unclean to address the underlying tidiness issue
  
  
  

Faith Formation

• Embrace, display, and support Catholic/Christian values and spiritual formation
• Regular participation in Ignatian formation activities including the school’s formal formation program, school masses, retreats, and other activities/events as scheduled
  
  
  

Core Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated leadership skills with experience in staff supervision and training with preferred 5 years’ custodial experience
• Proficiency with resilient floor care, carpet extraction, window cleaning, and other routine cleaning tasks
• Excellent communication and negotiation abilities with vendors
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and work independently
• Computer skills to respond to work orders and emails effectively and clearly
• Embrace and display Catholic/Christian values and spiritual life
