The Human Resources Manager Position

The Human Resources Manager plays a critical role in rebuilding and strengthening the company’s HR function. For the first 12–18 months, this individual will focus heavily on evaluating the current state of HR, identifying operational gaps, and building the infrastructure needed to support long-term growth. This includes creating and documenting policies and procedures, redesigning HR workflows, and creating stronger organizational consistency across core people functions.


The initial rebuilding phase will include rewriting and modernizing the employee handbook, documenting processes related to leave administration, ADA accommodations, employee accommodations, recruiting workflows, onboarding procedures, and leadership training. This individual will be expected to create structure where it may not currently exist and implement practical solutions that improve efficiency and reduce organizational risk.


Following the initial rebuilding phase, this individual will continue managing critical day-to-day HR functions including payroll administration, benefits administration, recruiting, employee relations support, and leadership guidance. This role requires someone who can operate independently, make sound decisions, and execute at a high level without requiring significant oversight.


While this role carries a management title, it is currently structured as an individual contributor role. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in autonomous environments, enjoys building processes from the ground up, and can confidently lead HR initiatives without needing constant direction.


Experience, Skills, and Abilities for the HR Manager Position

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • 7 years of progressive Human Resources experience across multiple HR disciplines
  • Experience creating, documenting, and implementing HR policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations, compliance, leave administration, and HR best practices
  • Experience managing payroll and benefits administration
  • Recruiting and onboarding process development experience required
  • HRIS experience strongly preferred
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to train and influence managers


Compensation, Benefits, and Structure for the HR Manager Position

Rewards for this position include a competitive base salary based on experience, skills, and overall qualifications. Additional benefits include employer-paid medical and dental insurance beginning on your first day of employment, employer-paid life insurance, AD&D, short-term disability, and long-term disability coverage, and a generous retirement plan with employer-match.


This position operates on a hybrid schedule based on business needs, typically requiring 2–4 days per week in-office in Troy, MI. Weekend work is not expected.
