What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Mechanic position at Walpole Housing Authority?
MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
The Maintenance Mechanic performs ongoing and diversified tasks involving the repair, maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of buildings and grounds. The work requires the various skills found in the trade classifications of carpenter, electrician, plumber, mason, painter and groundskeeper.
The Maintenance Mechanic under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, shall perform the following duties:
Minor plumbing such as:
Unplugging blocked plumbing fixtures and pipes.
Repair and replacement of plumbing fixtures.
Minor repairs to heating valves and pipes.
Any other minor repairs as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or the Executive Director.
Minor electrical repairs such as:
Replacement of wall switches and receptacles.
Installation of lighting fixtures.
Installation of junction boxes and fixed wiring of appliances.
Minor repairs to stoves and refrigerators.
Any other minor repairs as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or the Executive Director.
Minor Mason/Carpentry work such as:
Patching walks, steps and driveways.
Patching plaster in ceilings and walls.
Minor repairs to windows, doors, locks and door frames.
Any other minor repairs as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or the Executive Director.
Routine Custodial/Janitorial and Apartment Refurbishment work such as:
Cleaning walls, floors, ceilings, rugs and bathrooms.
Painting walls, ceilings, trim.
Emptying trash.
Any other minor repairs as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or the Executive Director.
Grounds keeping Tasks such as:
Trimming, mowing, painting.
Snow removal.
Minor repairs and maintenance of mechanical equipment such as snow blowers, mowers etc.
Any other grounds keeping tasks as directed by Maintenance Supervisor or the Executive Director.
REQUIREMENTS:
Working knowledge and manual skills in the various trades.
The ability to read blueprints, drawings, specifications, schematics, technical documents & standards.
Familiarity with the practices, tools, methods & materials of the trades.
Ability to use a computerized Work Order system.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, Outlook and e-mail).
Valid MA driver’s license and the ability to operate a truck with snow plow.
Rotating on call status for nights, holidays and weekends to respond to emergencies required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move heavy objects such as refrigerators or stoves.
Ability to climb heights of up to three stories.
Manual snow shoveling.
Vision abilities that include close vision to perform tasks.
Ability to bend, stoop or crawl in cramped places.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The Maintenance Mechanic position is 7.5 hours per day/ 35 hours per week position.
Rotating on call status for nights, holidays and weekends to respond to emergencies required.
Mandatory on-site snow removal.
