Walnut Hill School for the Arts seeks a full-time faculty member to join the Dance Department in the Boston Ballet School Professional Division at Walnut Hill for the 2025-2026 academic year starting in mid-August 2025. Dance Faculty are dedicated educators and active members of the school community, committed to fostering excellence in ballet education while supporting the School's mission to develop intellectual artists of impact.


This role requires exceptional ballet instruction, strong interpersonal and communication skills, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to cultivating a dynamic, innovative, and culturally responsive learning environment.

They actively contribute to recruitment, marketing, and external engagement efforts, ensuring the vibrancy and visibility of both institutions.

Schedule: As a full-time faculty member in the Dance Department, the standard workweek is 37.5 hours. A typical Walnut Hill arts faculty workday runs from 10:30 AM to 6:30 PM; however, weekly hours and daily schedules may vary based on departmental needs. Any adjustments to work hours will be determined by the Director of the Dance Department. This is a 10-month faculty position reporting to the Director of Dance.



Compensation:

Walnut Hill offers a comprehensive compensation package, including salary and benefits, aligned with experience and internal equity. In addition to Walnut Hill’s salary and benefits, Dance Faculty may be eligible to receive an additional 20% to 25% of their base salary from the Boston Ballet School for summer responsibilities, pending agreement with the Boston Ballet administration.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


Teaching and Programming

  • Teach, lead, and guide students in the assigned classes across various levels in alignment with the established curriculum;
  • Develop and oversee a cohesive ballet curriculum that reflects best practices, meets diverse learner needs, and aligns with institutional priorities;
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of the Dance Department on all aspects of teaching and learning, including syllabus planning, curriculum development, instruction, attendance taking and tracking, grading, writing recommendations, and providing student feedback; be cognizant of performance schedules, tech week, and other arts-related and student activities;
  • Participate in departmental responsibilities, including scheduling, attending, and leading classes, rehearsals, productions, and performances as needed; support students in various activities, including pre-screenings and college or company applications;
  • Arrive at the studio at least five minutes before class begins;
  • Substitute for colleagues when needed, which may occasionally include covering classes on a scheduled day off;
  • Stage, choreograph, and rehearse assigned repertoire for student presentations and performances as needed;
  • Support Showcase Weekends, working on weekends to assist students with performances and
  • events;
  • Leverage technology to enhance student learning, engage in training as needed; be prepared to teach both in-person and online if required; and
  • Contribute to curricular initiatives and other academic projects as implemented by the School Administration.


Collaboration & Community Engagement:

  • Collaborate with colleagues across all departments to foster a positive and supportive educational and workplace environment that aligns with the School’s mission, vision, and core values;
  • Engage in the School’s diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging and restorative practices initiatives, actively participating in anti-racist work and ongoing learning;
  • Support the Student Life Office and serve as a Student Advisor and work individually with each advisee to maximize their experience at Walnut Hill and provide students with a consistent and caring adult relationship while at school;
  • Serve as a club advisor or the equivalent as assigned; serve as a school trip or event chaperone and provide weekend team duty (4 times per year), as assigned by the Student Life Office
  • Serve as a resource for students, families, and colleagues regarding student progress; and
  • Actively participate in school-wide initiatives, including assemblies, performances, and community events; model and encourage appropriate behavior and monitor students during events and programming.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • At least five years of experience as a professional dancer;
  • At least five years of experience teaching dance to students aged 14–17;
  • Proven ability to rehearse and set both classical and contemporary choreography;
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, with a commitment to achieving shared goals;
  • Deep understanding of culturally responsive teaching and DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) practices;
  • Proficiency in technology, including learning management systems and Google Workspace for Education;Experience working with diverse populations, including international students;
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
