This role combines production ownership with hands-on engineering focused on automation, reliability, and AI-driven efficiency. What you'll do:
- Reports to: Senior Engineering Manager, Cassandra Platform
- Design and build automation to manage provisioning, scaling, upgrades, decommissions, and health monitoring of Cassandra clusters
- Reduce repetitive operational work by developing internal tools and self-service capabilities
- Participate in on-call rotation and lead incident response and root cause analysis for production systems
- Improve system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency across a large-scale distributed database footprint
- Evaluate and apply AI-assisted tooling to improve diagnostics, alert quality, and engineering productivity
- Experience building backend or platform software using Java, Python, Ruby, and shell scripting
- Experience operating and troubleshooting distributed systems in production environments
- Ability to identify manual processes and replace them with scalable automation
- Experience participating in on-call and incident response
- Experience collaborating across engineering, cloud, and reliability teams
