Senior Director, Communications (Advertising Business)

Position Summary...The Senior Director, Walmart Connect Communications will help shape the next chapter of Walmart’s advertising business and its role in the rapidly evolving commerce media industry. This leader will define and drive the communications strategy for Walmart Connect, telling a differentiated story about how Walmart brings together customer understanding, commerce and media to create better experiences for customers and stronger outcomes for advertisers. The opportunity is to build reputation, shape industry perception and translate a fast-moving business into stories that demonstrate why Walmart’s scale, customer relationships and closed-loop understanding of commerce create something distinct in the advertising market.

About the team: Walmart Connect Communications operates within Global Communications as part of the Enterprise Growth organization. The team supports advertisers in recognizing Walmart’s unique opportunities, enhances customer experience by integrating advertising thoughtfully, and informs industry stakeholders about the evolving relationship between commerce and media. This group leads strategic communication efforts, ensuring consistent messaging and impactful engagement across multiple platforms. By fostering collaboration and leveraging expertise, the team drives innovative communication strategies that align with business goals and promote effective external and internal interactions. This position will be based at our Hoboken, New Jersey office, located at 221 River Street, Hoboken, NJ 07030.

What you'll do...

• Develop and lead a forward-looking communications strategy for Walmart Connect across earned, owned, executive, and advertiser-facing channels.
• Define a differentiated narrative for Walmart’s role in commerce media, grounded in customer value, advertiser outcomes, and Walmart’s unique understanding of commerce.
• Translate complex advertising, technology, data, and measurement capabilities into clear, compelling stories for business, media, and industry audiences.
• Advise senior leaders on messaging, positioning, and communications strategy as the business and category evolve.
• Identify moments and stories that demonstrate Walmart’s differentiation beyond individual product announcements.
• Develop thought leadership platforms for Walmart Connect executives around the evolving relationship between commerce, media, technology, and customer experience.
  
  

What You’ll Bring

• 10 years of communications leadership experience, ideally across advertising, media, technology, retail, consumer brands, or other rapidly evolving industries.
• Strong knowledge of the advertising and media landscape, including the forces reshaping how brands reach and understand customers.
• Exceptional storytelling instincts, with the ability to make complex businesses and technologies understandable, relevant, and engaging.
• Deep media relations experience and strong instincts for what makes a compelling business, advertising, or technology story.
• Strong executive presence and the ability to influence across a large, matrixed organization.
• Exceptional writing skills, with an instinct for clear, simple language over industry jargon.

The annual salary range for this position is $156,000.00 - $312,000.00

Additional Compensation Includes Annual Or Quarterly Performance Bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, or related field and 6 years’ experience in journalism, communications, or relevant area OR 8 years’ experience in journalism, communications, or relevant area.

2 years’ supervisory experience.
