OverNIGHT INVENTORY MERCHANDISER – COOLER SPECIALIST
The Overnight Inventory Merchandiser – Cooler Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring Wally’s coolers and cold product areas are fully stocked, accurately rotated, and visually organized for the next day’s guests. This position focuses on overnight stocking, inventory accuracy, and planogram execution within beverage and refrigerated sections while supporting overall store readiness.
Although this role primarily works overnight when guest traffic is limited, team members are still expected to uphold Wally’s standards of professionalism, safety, and hospitality when interacting with early-morning guests or other departments. Attention to detail, efficiency, and consistency are essential to maintaining Wally’s reputation for well-stocked, clean, and organized coolers.
Responsibilities & Duties
Cooler Stocking & Merchandising
Stock all beverage and refrigerated coolers according to company planograms and layout standards.
Ensure products are faced, aligned, price-labeled, and visually appealing.
Rotate products using FIFO (First In, First Out) to maintain freshness and reduce waste.
Build and maintain correct product flow by brand, package type, and promotional placement.
Execute merchandising resets, seasonal transitions, and new item placements as assigned.
Remove discontinued, damaged, or expired products from sales areas promptly.
Inventory Accuracy & Product Handling
Receive, transport, and stage cooler and refrigerated deliveries in designated storage areas.
Verify product quantities and report shortages, overages, or damages to Leads or Managers.
Maintain accurate product placement to support inventory counts and ordering systems.
Break down pallets, sort product by category, and stock efficiently to minimize backstock.
Communicate recurring inventory issues, space constraints, or stocking barriers.
Store Readiness for Day Operations
Ensure coolers are fully stocked and presentable before the morning shift begins.
Remove excess cardboard, shrink wrap, and trash from cooler and backroom areas.
Prepare displays and end caps to match daily promotional expectations.
Coordinate with Maintenance or Store Leadership regarding equipment or temperature concerns.
Cleanliness & Equipment Care
Clean cooler shelves, doors, tracks, and handles as assigned.
Wipe spills, condensation, and product residue to maintain safe, sanitary conditions.
Monitor cooler temperatures and report malfunctions or alarms immediately.
Keep backstock, carts, and staging areas organized and compliant with safety standards.
Safety & Compliance
Follow all food safety standards when handling refrigerated and ready-to-drink products.
Use proper lifting techniques and mechanical aids when moving heavy product loads.
Keep aisles, cooler floors, and storage areas clear of trip and slip hazards.
Follow all lock-out, equipment, and chemical safety procedures when applicable.
Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or product integrity concerns immediately.
Professionalism & Limited Guest Interaction
Provide courteous assistance to early-morning guests when encountered on the floor.
Maintain professional appearance and behavior in accordance with uniform standards.
Support a smooth transition between overnight and morning shifts through communication and organization.
Teamwork & Communication
Communicate task completion status and inventory concerns to incoming shifts.
Work cooperatively with Inventory, C-Store, Kitchen, and Maintenance teams as needed.
Accept coaching and feedback to improve efficiency, accuracy, and execution.
Assist with other stocking or recovery tasks when cooler responsibilities are complete.
Other Duties
Perform additional overnight operational tasks as assigned by Store Leadership.
Support store resets, audits, and special projects related to inventory or merchandising.
Uphold Wally’s values of hospitality, accountability, consistency, and teamwork.
Position Requirements
High school diploma or GED preferred; or up to one-month related experience or training
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.
Basic math and cash handling skills
Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems using standard operating procedures.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and Spreadsheet software.
