The MOHS Technician provides specialized technical support during MOHS micrographic surgery, assisting the physician in preparing and analyzing tissue specimens to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment of cancer. This position requires precision, attention to detail, and knowledge of laboratory procedures.
What you’ll do
- Prepare tissue specimens using appropriate techniques by processing, embedding, sectioning and staining for examination by the MOHS surgeon.
- Accurately label and map tissue samples according to established protocols.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as cryostats and microtomes.
- Prepare microscope slides with tissue sections.
- Perform routine and specialized staining procedures on tissue sections; review slides for quality.
- Maintain detailed records of all specimens including patient information, tissue processing steps, and slide preparation; adhere to all laboratory safety guidelines and quality control standards.
- Clean and maintain equipment, work surfaces and supplies.
- Travel to other locations required
Basic qualifications
- High School diploma
Preferred qualifications
- 1 year prior MOHS Tech experience
- Advanced training or certification in histology or laboratory science
- Proficiency in operating cryostat and other laboratory equipment
