POSITION TITLE: 1st Grade Classroom Teacher

BASIC FUNCTION: Fosters a joyful, student-centered classroom that prioritizes academic
growth, social-emotional development, and strong relationships,
preparing students to thrive as learners and community members.
WORKS WITH: Students, Parents, Teachers, Support Staff, Administration, and Community Partners
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education (Master’s preferred).
Valid Vermont teaching licensure (or eligibility) in Early Childhood/Elementary Education
Demonstrated knowledge of early childhood development and best instructional practices
Experience with differentiated instruction and proficiency-based learning systems
Strong understanding of social-emotional learning (SEL) and whole-child instruction
Ability to analyze student data and adjust instruction to meet individual needs
Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and colleagues
Commitment to equity and inclusive practices in a diverse learning environment
Experience integrating technology and project-based learning into instruction
Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and ethical conduct
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in all topics
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including intervention and enrichment
Implement proficiency-based learning practices, focusing on student growth rather than grades
Incorporate project-based learning and hands-on experiences to deepen understanding
Integrate social-emotional learning into daily instruction and classroom routines
Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that supports academic and social growth
Establish clear expectations for behavior and reinforce positive, prosocial behaviors
Build strong relationships with students to support engagement and belonging
Monitor student progress, use data to inform instruction and provide targeted support
Maintain accurate records of student achievement and growth
Communicate student progress regularly with families
Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and support staff to meet student needs
Participate in IEP, EST, and other student support meetings as needed
Maintain consistent, positive communication with families
Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning
Reflect on instructional practices and pursue continuous professional growth
Uphold school and district policies, procedures, and values
Support school-wide initiatives, events, and community engagement opportunities
Actively contribute to the positive culture of Wallingford Elementary School
