Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS)/Drone Technology Instructor

The Instructor is responsible for fostering student learning by providing high-quality classroom instruction. The Instructor must strive for continuous improvement of the curriculum, learning activities, and instructional resources to ensure student success. In addition to instructional duties, the Instructor will also be fully involved in the institutional planning process and developing the goals and objectives of the assigned academic department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate degree or equivalent (at least sixty (60) semester hours in a planned program, including associate degree core) in a closely related technical field.
• Must have 2-3 years of professional or instructional experience in UAS/drone operations, aviation, engineering technology, robotics, GIS, surveying, or a related field.
• Must have experience with drone flight operations, FAA Part 107 regulations, mission planning, UAS equipment, and data collection.
• Must have effective written and oral communication skills, as well as the willingness to work nights and weekends.
• Must have the demonstrated ability to apply effective instructional techniques in the classroom and in flight.

FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate

Must hold FAA Remote Pilot certification for duration of employment

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrate and maintain a high level of competence and expertise in the teaching field or subject area.
• Develop, implement, and teach courses to meet individual student needs and ensure an effective learning experience.
• Evaluate and record student performance and achievement in a timely manner and provide prompt feedback to students and the administration to ensure learning outcomes are met.
• Participate as a contributing faculty member of the College, including participating in planning long-range and short-term goals for the department and College, as well as maintaining regular office hours and participating in faculty meetings.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, required, or directed by the College. The College reserves the right to assign additional tasks and to alter or reassign job duties as necessary to meet business and operational needs.
• In order to perform these essential functions, the Instructor must be present at work. Therefore, attendance is an essential job function.

SALARY: Based on education and experience commensurate with ACCS Salary Schedule D1 ($43,792-$98,138) of the Alabama Community College System policies. This is a nine-month position. A summer contract may be available (an additional $13,521-$30,351), dependent upon enrollment.
