SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist supports day-to-day HR operations across multiple functional areas, including employee relations, benefits administration, leave of absence management, recruitment support, and HR operations. This role reports directly to the Human Resources Manager and works in close partnership with them to implement HR strategies, ensure compliance, and deliver a consistent and positive employee experience. The Generalist also provides support to the payroll process as needed to ensure accuracy and continuity of operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Benefits Administration
- Administer employee benefits programs (medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans) under the guidance of the Human Resources Manager
- Manage enrollments, changes, and terminations in HRIS systems and with vendors
- Serve as a primary contact for employee benefits inquiries and escalate complex issues as needed
- Support open enrollment planning and execution in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (ACA, COBRA, ERISA, etc.)
- Coordinate with brokers and vendors to support plan administration
Leave of Absence Administration
- Administer and manage employee leave programs, including FMLA, Oregon Family Leave Act (OFLA), and Paid Leave Oregon (PLO), in alignment with organizational policies
- Work closely with the Human Resources Manager to ensure consistent application of leave policies and legal compliance
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employees and managers regarding leave processes and requirements
- Track leave requests, certifications, approvals, and return-to-work documentation
- Escalate complex or high-risk leave situations to the Human Resources Manager for guidance
- Maintain accurate, confidential leave records and reporting
Employee Relations & HR Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions and HR-related concerns, escalating complex issues to the Human Resources Manager as appropriate
- Partner closely with the Human Resources Manager to provide guidance to managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices
- Support employee relations matters, including performance issues, coaching, and conflict resolution in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager
- Assist the Human Resources Manager with investigations and documentation of employee concerns and workplace issues
- Promote a positive workplace culture and support employee engagement initiatives
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Support recruitment efforts by coordinating job postings, candidate screening, and interviews
- Partner with hiring managers and the Human Resources Manager to facilitate efficient hiring processes
- Coordinate pre-employment processes and onboarding activities
- Deliver new hire orientation in alignment with HR standards and practices
Payroll Support
- Provide support to the payroll process as needed, including reviewing employee data changes, timekeeping inputs, and deductions for accuracy
- Partner with payroll or Finance to ensure employee information (new hires, terminations, status changes) is accurate and up to date
- Assist in resolving employee payroll-related inquiries and escalate issues as appropriate
- Support payroll audits and reporting efforts in collaboration with the Human Resources Manager and payroll function
- Help ensure proper coordination between payroll, benefits, and leave of absence programs
HR Operations & Compliance
- Maintain employee records and HRIS data with accuracy and confidentiality
- Support the Human Resources Manager in developing, updating, and implementing HR policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
- Assist with audits, reporting, and HR metrics
- Support training and development initiatives as directed by the Human Resources Manager
Wallace Team Member
- Maintain strict patient, staff, and organizational confidentiality.
- Collaborate effectively with administrative and clinical teams.
- Provide excellent internal customer service to all Wallace stakeholders.
- Maintain positive working relationships across departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3 years of HR experience, including employee relations, benefits, and leave administration
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, including FMLA and Oregon-specific regulations (OFLA, PLO)
- Exposure to or familiarity with payroll processes and systems
- Experience with HRIS platforms (ADP, Paylocity, Workday, or similar)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment
- Bilingual (e.g., English/Spanish) preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar certification
- Experience in multi-state HR environments
- Experience partnering with third-party benefits and leave administrators
- Experience supporting payroll processes or working cross-functionally with payroll teams
