What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil PE position at Wallace Design Collective?
Brief Description
We are looking for a motivated and self-driven Professional Engineer (PE) to join our Land Development team. This is a "bridge" role designed for a newer PE who has mastered the technical fundamentals and is ready to take full ownership of projects.
While you will work closely with our established senior leadership and have access to a deep pool of internal expertise, you are someone who can take a project and run with it. You will be responsible for managing the design process, navigating the permitting landscape, and delivering high-quality site plans from concept to completion with minimal hand-holding.
Requirements

Requirements
Core Responsibilities
- Full Lifecycle Management: Lead site civil projects from "start to finish," overseeing initial due diligence, entitlement, design development, and construction administration.
- Precision Engineering: Develop comprehensive site designs, including intricate grading plans and utility layouts for water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage.
- Technical Documentation: Generate high-quality profiles and cross-sections that meet stringent agency standards and ensure constructability.
- Jurisdictional Coordination: Navigate the complexities of various municipalities across the region (and nationally), ensuring all designs comply with specific local codes and permitting requirements.
- Client & Agency Liaison: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for a diverse client base, including national retail brands, industrial operators, and local school districts.
- Project Ownership: Demonstrate a proven track record of taking redlines or conceptual sketches and transforming them into a complete, permitted construction package autonomously.
- Civil 3D Expert: You must know Civil 3D inside and out. We are looking for a "power user" who can build surfaces, pipe networks, and alignments efficiently without the need for additional technical training.
- Advanced Site Design: Direct experience in commercial land development is essential. You must have a deep understanding of site-specific challenges, including parking lot geometry, ADA compliance, and private utility coordination.
- Multi-Sector Versatility: Proven ability to pivot between different project types, such as quick-service restaurants (QSR), automotive dealerships, and manufacturing plants.
- Regulatory Savvy: Strong familiarity with the permitting processes of various municipalities. While we work locally (e.g., Aurora, Lakewood, Thornton), experience with national jurisdictions is a significant plus.
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Licensure: Active PE license in Colorado (or eligibility for licensure by comity).
- Experience: 5 years of relevant experience in land development.
- Software: Mastery of AutoCAD Civil 3D is non-negotiable for this role.
