Position Summary
The Adjunct Instructor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in assigned courses, supporting student learning outcomes, maintaining accurate academic records, and contributing to a positive and engaging learning environment. The Adjunct Instructor teaches courses at various times and locations based on student demand, in accordance with the approved curriculum, institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction and Student Learning
- Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course syllabi, curriculum standards, and institutional policies.
- Prepare and deliver instructional materials, lectures, laboratory activities, clinical experiences, or other learning activities appropriate to the discipline.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and engaging learning environment that promotes student success.
- Utilize a variety of instructional methodologies and technologies to enhance student learning.
- Maintain current knowledge of subject matter and instructional best practices.
- Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and active participation among students.
- Develop, administer, and evaluate assignments, examinations, projects, and other assessments.
- Assess student performance and provide timely feedback.
- Maintain and communicate course expectations and grading criteria.
- Be reasonably available to students for consultation and academic assistance.
- Identify and refer students to appropriate support services when needed.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
- Submit grades, attendance reports, and other required documentation by established deadlines.
- Comply with all institutional policies, procedures, and academic regulations.
- Adhere to accreditation standards and applicable state and federal requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Participate in required departmental, divisional, and institutional meetings and training as assigned.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators to support student success initiatives.
- Utilize institutional learning management systems and other required technologies.
- Support institutional goals, strategic initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain professionalism in all interactions with students, colleagues, and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, or other designated supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 18 semester hours in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a Mathematics related field is required.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Education and three years' teaching experience in Mathematics or graduate training in remedial education is required.
(Note: All degrees must be from an accredited institution.)
- Master's degree from an accredited institution with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline is preferred.
- Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into curricula, including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Canvas platform, is preferred.
- Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.
