The Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Director is a Registered Professional Nurse who works in conjunction with the CEO in planning, developing, and implementing the operations, compliance, safety and continuing education programs of the ASC. In addition, he/she directly supervises the ancillary staff in the performance of their daily duties.
Role and Responsibilities: · Accountable for developing collaborative relationships with surgeons, employees and local partners. · Develops strategy to ensure safety, minimize risk, achieve high quality outcomes, maintain accreditation/licensure and pass audits/surveys. · Ensure all regulatory, safety and other operational standards are documented and adhered to. · Provide support and collaboration between leadership and ASC staff to continuously improve access, outcomes, service and strategically grow department. · Meets regularly with CEO to plan and organize facility operations. Assists in the development of department’s annual budget and periodic forecasts. · Practices effective communication skills; demonstrated by ability to successfully coach, counsel, negotiate, teach and promote positive public relations. · Maintains facility logs and written reports including ASC Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) meeting minutes. Review/revise policies annually. · Review monthly facility supply expenses and staffing utilization. Performs case cost analysis studies and implements changes for providing standardization and reduced costs. · Develops and manages a plan for securing, storing and distribution of supplies and equipment required by the facility, specifically in reference to patient care areas. · Recruits, hires and develops personnel; orients new employees to policies and procedures of the facility. Assures that staff receive adequate in-service and continuing education and development. · Responsible for surveillance, analysis, and reporting to MAC all pertinent infection and quality improvement issues and studies. · Develops policies and procedures to ensure recognized infection control standards are met. Educates employees regarding infection control/prevention. · Participates in all quality improvement processes of the facility. · Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of general nursing theory and practice, including basic disciplines relating to nursing (such as biological, physical, social and medical sciences) and their application to patient care. · Able to teach and provide on-the-job training for clinical staff members, organize and develop work to ensure that all required jobs are performed satisfactorily. · Able to fill in for nursing personnel and to function effectively in emergency situations. · Maintain patient and facility confidentiality. |
