Full-time Police Officer

The Wall Township Police Department, comprised of 65 sworn officers, is a New Jersey Chief of Police Association Accredited Agency, located in Southern Monmouth County, New Jersey. The agency is comprised of a patrol division, detective division, and professional standards division and provides police service to over 26,000 residents within 32 square miles.

According to the 2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement, a full-time police officer in Wall Township makes $39,000.00 in the academy and between $54.182.00 – $143,727.04 post academy.
Items needed for Registration
- Completed Preliminary Police Officer Application Packet (includes a Preliminary Application, Waiver Form, Records Release Form, and Voluntary Affirmative Action Information.
- Medical Doctor’s note within the last six (6) months stating “capable of vigorous physical activity“
These items must be submitted together. The application, waiver, and doctor’s note must be delivered in person at the Records Bureau in the Wall Township Police Department, 2700 Allaire Rd, Wall, NJ, 07719. After business hours and weekends, the documents will be accepted at our Communications Center in the Police Department. DO NOT SUBMIT ANY OTHER DOCUMENTS OTHER THAN WHAT IS REQUESTED AT THIS TIME. You will be given a study guide for the written examination when you turn in your application.
If you do not complete the above paperwork correctly, including the picture, and submit it along with the doctor’s note by the deadline, you will not be permitted to participate in the selection process.
Eligibility Criteria for Wall Township Police Officer
- Must be 18 – 34 years of age;
- Possess a valid driver license;
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Be a United States citizen.
- Must have completed a minimum of sixty credit hours of study at an accredited college or university. An Associate’s Degree is also acceptable.
OR
- Must have completed two or more years of active duty in any branch of the Armed Forces of the United States. Two or more years of Reserve or National Guard time does not meet this requirement unless the applicant was on active duty for at least twenty four months.
OR
- Hold a valid certification from the NJ Police Training Commission as a Class A Police Officer.
Pay particular attention to the following:
Tattoos or similar markings on the face, head, scalp and neck are forbidden.
Physical Examination
The physical examination is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, July 13th, 2024 at the Wall Township Municipal Athletic Fields located at 1911 Baileys Corner Road, Wall Township, NJ. Please keep this date available on your schedule. The test will be given rain or shine. There is no rain date or makeup date. You MUST bring a photo ID and appropriate exercise attire. No bags are allowed. Water is also recommended.
The physical fitness exam will include:
- Timed 1.5 mile run
- Maximum repetitions of push ups (one minute)
- Maximum repetitions of sit ups (one minute)
- Timed 300 meter sprint
- Timed 50 yard dummy drag (150 lbs)
- Vertical jump
The physical fitness test will be conducted in an atmosphere of strict control and discipline. Applicants will be required to follow all directions without exception.
The physical examination times are arranged in alphabetical order and will be published by prior to the physical test, please check our website for your examination time. You must show up at your designated time in accordance with your last name. There will be no exceptions.
Candidates should prepare themselves for rigorous physical activities. Testing will include strength and endurance, cardio/respiratory endurance and agility evaluation.
Written Examination
The written examination date is to be determined, but will be held after the Physical Assessment in December. No food or drink will be permitted during the written exam. Photo ID will be required to be admitted to the written exam.
