Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Shop/Yard Manager based in DeForest, WI. The Shop/Yard Manager oversees daily operations, equipment maintenance, and material flow for construction projects, bridging office planning with field execution by managing inventory, scheduling repairs, ensuring safety compliance (like OSHA), coordinating subcontractors/crews, tracking budgets/timelines. Key duties include diagnosing/repairing machinery, organizing tools, ordering supplies, maintaining clean work areas, reporting progress, and supporting field teams to minimize downtime and meet project goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment & Maintenance: Conduct inspections, diagnose issues, perform preventative maintenance, and manage repairs for machinery, trucks, and small engines; order parts and maintain inventory.
- Operations Management: Organize shop/yard, manage material delivery/pickup, prepare job site logistics (dumpsters, supplies), and track material usage.
- Team Coordination: Support field crews with materials, handle daily crew intake/release, and ensure efficient morning/afternoon operations.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce company safety policies, OSHA standards, and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
- Reporting & Administration: Keep digital maintenance records, manage shop schedules, and support project managers with logistical data.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Experience with equipment operation, including forklifts and mechanics.
- Strong communication, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of safety regulations (OSHA).
- Ability to use computers, spreadsheets and various other software.
- Proven supervisory skills and experience in team leadership
- Prior experience in logistics or construction industry preferred
- Knowledge and experience in yard management and organizing yard operations
- Ability to adhere to and enforce safety protocols and guidelines
