Job Description: Pharmacy Clerk
Reports To:
The pharmacy clerk reports to the PIC (Pharmacist-In-Charge) at their pharmacy location. During each shift, the clerk reports directly to the pharmacist(s) on duty that day. For scheduling purposes, the pharmacy clerk will also report to the lead pharmacy technician who helps the PIC coordinate the schedule.
Job Overview:
The pharmacy clerk is primarily responsible for providing excellent customer service to all pharmacy patients both in-store and at the Drive Thru Window. The clerk will complete the majority of prescription and OTC checkouts at the POS. Secondarily, the clerk is also responsible for answering phones, taking refill orders, re-ordering and re-stocking OTC products, bagging prescription orders according to protocol, and texting/calling patients when prescriptions are ready.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Show up at least 10 minutes prior to start of shift
- Find coverage for yourself if unable to work a specific shift or day - always communicate changes to lead technicians and pharmacists at your pharmacy location.
- Ensure all customers in store and at the window are helped in a timely manner - when multiple customers need assistance, communicate with other staff to request help.
- ALWAYS greet customers with a smile and seek to be as helpful, empathetic, and courteous as humanly possible. You are the FACE of Walker to many patients.
- Communicate requests clearly to pharmacists and technicians to coordinate the completion of prescription related requests. If you don’t know the answer - get the pharmacist.
- Answer phones quickly (1-2 rings) when you are not helping a customer. Take refills or answer basic questions if you can and transfer to other pharmacy staff if you cannot.
- Follow Bagging Protocol carefully every time!
- Text patients when prescriptions are ready before hanging.
- Call patient if any noted are present to explain (instead of texting)
- Assist with RTS protocol on designated day by re-texting and calling if needed.
- Re-order OTC products daily
- Put up OTC orders daily
- Clean OTC shelves regularly and ensure that area is always neat, tidy, and clean.
- Maintain an organized work area at the cash register.
Unacceptable Behavior:
- Showing up late - ALWAYS be clocked in and ready to work at least 10 minutes before shift begins
- Unexcused absences - failing to work your shift without finding proper coverage and/or without communicating changes with your pharmacist for approval
- Abusing or wasting company time while on the clock (I.e. doing anything other than the tasks needed to complete your job)
- Personal cell phone use while working
- Personal internet use unrelated to your normal business duties or tasks specifically assigned by pharmacist
