**Overview:**
Walker June Calhoun, CPAs PC, is an accounting firm located in Burton, Michigan. We have been in business offering the same, trusted services for over 40 years. Our firm is seeking an experienced senior accountant to act as tax preparer and accountant while managing and maintaining relationships with a variety of business and personal clients.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Prepare tax returns for business and individual clients.
· Understand and know how to ethically apply the law to tax return preparation.
· Interview clients to obtain additional information on taxable income and deductible expenses and allowances.
· Use all appropriate, legal & ethical adjustments, deductions, and credits to keep clients' taxes to a minimum.
· Furnish taxpayers with sufficient information and advice to ensure correct tax form completion.
· Check data input or verify totals on forms prepared by others to detect errors in arithmetic, data entry, or procedures.
· Consult tax law handbooks or bulletins to determine procedures for preparation of atypical returns.
· Answer questions and provide future tax planning to clients.
· Review financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures to determine forms needed to prepare tax returns.
· Explain federal and state tax laws to individuals and companies.
Bookkeeping/Accounting for small business clients.
· Monthly bookkeeping
· Assist clients with oversight and help for those clients that do their own bookkeeping
· Payroll and sales tax return preparation
· Answer client questions and assist in requests
Education/Knowledge & Skills:
- Enrolled Agent or Certified Public Accountant license/candidate preferred
- Ability to effectively manage competing priorities, stringent deadlines, and multiple clients
- Strong sense of professional and personal accountability
- Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office applications
- 1-year relevant experience preparing federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals (1040) and businesses (1120, 1120S, 1065) preferred
- Must possess or be able to obtain Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly motivated and a self-starter
- Strong leadership qualities and work ethic
- Experience with Intuit ProSeries or equivalent preparation software preferred
