What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Estimator position at Waldron Engineering & Construction?
Waldron is seeking an Estimator with approximately 0-3 years of experience. Primary job duties are to support Waldron’s pre-construction and business development operations. Position will also include support of active construction projects. The successful candidate will primarily be assigned to Waldron’s home office in Exeter, NH. Some travel to remote construction sites with overnight stays will be necessary. Although not required, experience in construction estimating, working in the trades, or working as a project engineer is a plus. Waldron will train the right candidate with the ambition and dedication to build the experience necessary to be successful in the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform detailed take-offs for multi-discipline construction projects in support of cost opinions and contractable estimates.
- Prepare detailed scope sheets and requests for proposals to acquire pricing from subcontractors and vendors.
- Estimate construction trade productivity and material costs using published industry data, subcontractor input, and experience.
- Perform initial proposal evaluations and bid comparisons to provide input into selection recommendations for subcontracts and vendors.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and client sites to collect data and represent the company.
- Interpret construction drawings and specifications to support estimating duties.
- Develop scopes of work from client requests for proposals.
- Assist with scope clarifications for Project Managers contracting with owners, clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Assist with change order pricing and evaluation to support construction projects.
- Research and find qualified subcontractors to support estimating and project operations.
- Assist with the development of construction schedules for active projects and to support business development activities.
- Understand and comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ensure both internal and external customer satisfaction.
- Maintain high professional and construction ethics.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in maintaining historical estimating data, equipment pricing, and subcontractor database.
- Build relationships with trusted subcontractor partners to support the company’s business needs.
- Assist with or perform project cost tracking and cost forecasting.
- Assist with developing and implementing company procedures, standards, etc.
- Supporting the main office and remote project sites with deliveries, workstation setups, organization of tools & equipment, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned per supervisor’s direction with minimal supervision.
- Continually look for opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
- Maintains necessary licensing/training requirements.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED:
- BS in Engineering discipline or Construction Management preferred, although not required.
- Experience in the construction industry preferred.
- Outstanding attention to detail.
- Prompt and accurate judgement.
- Solution oriented.
- Willingness to learn, take on new challenges, and be a self-starter.
- Excellent communication, organization, interpersonal, and planning skills.
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations & recommend corrective measures.
- Experience with Windows-based personal computers and Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to learn and become proficient in use of job applicable software (P6, Autodesk Build, Bluebeam).
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Position will require occasional travel to remote jobs sites—some requiring overnight stays.
- Projects are typically industrial in nature and may require work inside power plants, food processing areas, manufacturing areas, etc.
- Some lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Some climbing, bending, and standing for long periods of time.
