What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shop Foreman position at Walashek?

Summary/Objective

The shop foreman is responsible for planning, scheduling, performing, directing and evaluating repair and servicing equipment. This position reports to the Regional Manager or designate.


Essential Functions

  1. Maintain tool and material inventory
  1. Maintain accurate vehicle fleet inventory; perform vehicle inspections and ensure maintenance is accomplished as required
  1. Identify, diagnose and perform repairs as needed on shop equipment
  1. Train and mentor junior technicians in regard to tools and their use
  1. Coordinate work among all trades to ensure resources are allocated according to work schedules and project priorities
  1. Manage and maintain work environment safety, perform inspections, and ensure adherence to regulations.
  1. Purchase any necessary parts to complete repairs, and possess knowledge of repair procedures and basic computer software (to place orders)

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office and shop environment and on various job sites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing some duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE when required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work vary depending on schedule and job contract. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. We provide paid holidays, PTO, paid medical, vision, dental and 401(k) benefits.


Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.


Required Education and Experience

  1. Must have strong organizational skills
  1. Must have a valid driver license
  1. Forklift driver (preferred)
  1. Brazing Certified
  1. Pipefitting and welding Knowledge
  1. Must possess knowledge in the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic component systems; the practices, materials, and tools used to repair and refinish various ship repair and industrial projects.
  1. Knowledge in the operations of a multifaceted mechanic/repair shop; machine/mechanic shop safety practices.
  1. Ability to understand and administer OSHA, ABS Classification guidelines, USCG, NAVSEA and SOLAS requirements
  1. Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  1. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  1. High performance and a strong team player
  1. Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures
  1. Commitment to company values, policies and procedures and safety program
