What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Lab Scientist Apprentice position at WakeMed Health & Hospitals?
Overview: The Medical Laboratory Scientist Apprentice performs procedures relative to this technical skill level for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and works as part of a team with general supervision from technical or supervisory staff. Responsible for verification of proper patient/specimen identification, appropriateness of specimen and accompanying orders, processes samples for testing, and loads samples onto instruments as appropriate according to procedures. Organizes laboratory workflow and appropriately prioritizes processing and distribution of specimens. Utilizes requisite equipment, instruments, and computer systems to perform assigned duties. Performs and documents quality control as needed and contributes to the maintenance of the laboratory equipment and supplies. Maintains skills and knowledge in the performance of assigned duties and troubleshoots as needed. Answers the phone and provides appropriate responses. Completes administrative support assignments as needed and within expected deadline. Performs other duties relevant to the testing performed in the department as assigned by supervisory staff.
