Responsible for safeguarding patients' right to privacy and ensuring timely access to accurate health information by maintaining compliance with WakeMed policies and procedures as well as State and Federal laws. This role involves liaising with patients, healthcare professionals, and other customers of WakeMed. The position operates in a fast-paced environment with expectations to achieve and maintain productivity and accuracy rates established for the role. Onsite and/or remote coverage (that may include afterhours, weekends, and holidays) is required, as needed, at any WakeMed health facility. Responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of patient health records. This role involves essential functions such as scanning, chart analysis, chart correction, patient identity verification, and release of information. The HIM Specialist plays a crucial part in maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, supporting clinical staff and WakeMed customers with timely and accurate health information, and safeguarding sensitive patient data. Key responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing medical records for completeness and accuracy, correcting discrepancies to ensure proper documentation, managing patient identity integrity to prevent duplication or errors, scanning and digitizing records into the health information system, and processing requests for release of information in accordance with legal and privacy regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and knowledgeable in healthcare information management practices, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of confidentiality and accuracy.
