Refrigeration Service Technician / Shop Lead
Overview:
We are seeking an experienced refrigeration technician in the SCIENTIFIC & HEALTHCARE market with strong hands-on skills and leadership ability to support and lead shop operations. This role requires technical expertise, accountability, and urgency in returning customer equipment to service quickly and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration systems, including cascade systems
• Perform brazing and refrigeration piping work to industry standards
• Execute proper evacuation procedures, including triple evacuation
• Accurately charge systems and work with a wide range of refrigerants
• Use meters, gauges, and hand tools proficiently for diagnostics and repair
• Evaluate and repair various OEM laboratory freezers and refrigeration equipment
• Maintain high-quality repair standards with a focus on safety and reliability
• Lead shop workflow using metrics (turnaround time, throughput, quality)
• Prioritize work with a strong sense of urgency to meet customer timelines
• Support continuous improvement of shop processes and technician performance
Qualifications:
• Proven experience in scientific and healthcare refrigeration system and equipment service/repair
• Strong brazing skills
• Deep understanding of evacuation, charging, and refrigerant handling
• Solid troubleshooting skills with electrical and mechanical systems
• Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools and equipment
• Familiarity with OEM refrigeration/freezer systems preferred
• Ability to lead and drive performance in a shop environment
• Strong work ethic and “can-do” attitude
Requirements:
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to lift 40 lbs without assistance
