Wake Radiology is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Preauthorization Specialist – Interventional Radiology (IR) to support our Revenue Cycle team. This role is responsible for obtaining timely and accurate prior authorizations for interventional radiology procedures, ensuring compliance with payer requirements and minimizing delays in patient care.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a thorough understanding of insurance processes, and a commitment to delivering patient-centered service. This is an in-office position in the North Hills area (it is NOT remote).

Key Responsibilities
- Review physician orders and clinical documentation to determine authorization requirements for scheduled procedures
- Obtain prior authorizations and verify insurance coverage for interventional radiology services
- Communicate effectively with patients, providers, and insurance representatives to resolve authorization issues
- Accurately document all authorization activities in the EMR and scheduling systems
- Monitor and track pending authorizations; follow up to prevent delays in care
- Collaborate with scheduling and clinical teams to ensure procedures are authorized prior to scheduling
- Maintain current knowledge of payer guidelines, medical necessity criteria, and coding requirements
- Assist with appeals for denied authorizations as needed
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and protect patient confidentiality
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma required; Associate degree preferred
- Minimum of 1-2 years of prior authorization or insurance verification experience in a healthcare setting
- Experience in radiology or interventional radiology preferred
- EMR experience required; Epic preferred
- Experience working with insurance portals and authorization systems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
