Summary: _*
Observe and learn to perform numerous duties involved in the maintenance and construction of overhead and underground lines in both energized and de-energized states. Improve climbing skills, operate digger equipment, and begin to learn to operate an aerial device to maintain and install overhead lines and line equipment. Adhere to all safety rules, standards, and procedures. Gain working knowledge of Wake Electric's distribution system and electrical line equipment. Under observation, must be able to install and maintain the related duties of line construction. Will be on call 24/7 for outages. Will be expected to learn advanced Lineman skills through on-the-job training as well as through classroom-type training provided by Wake Electric.
Principal Duties and/or Requirements
- Properly utilize safety equipment and PPE.
- Recognize hazards with all job assignments.
- Observe Lineman work on pole and anticipate Lineman's need for material and tools.
- Assist Lineman in preparing materials for use at work site and equipment maintenance duties.
- Perform tasks and manual labor such as cleaning truck, loading material, digging ditches, tamping, cutting brush and moving materials as assigned by Crew Leader or Foreman.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds. Excellent hand and eye coordination is a must.
- Train for advanced Lineman positions.
- Maintain ability to administer First Aid; Maintain own tools and Wake Electric's tools and equipment in good working order.
- Develop knowledge of all relevant electronic systems.
- Attend regularly scheduled safety meetings, vendor schools and special training and safety sessions, as assigned.
- Attend in-house training classes in preparation for job progression.
- Must possess, or obtain, and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire date.
- Develops and displays proficiency and a working knowledge of equipment, hardware, and other tools necessary to perform required maintenance and repair as directed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must pass a drug screening, background check and post offer Fit for Duty test.
- This position reports to the Line Superintendent.
**It is required that you must live within a 30-minutes driving distance to the Youngsville office.
