Program Auditor – Child Care Subsidy Program (NC FAST)

The Program Auditorplays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of Child Care Subsidy payments within the NC FAST system . This position safeguards state resources by auditing cases, identifying discrepancies, monitoring provider compliance, and investigating potential fraud . You’ll collaborate closely with childcare providers, internal staff, and state partners to promote consistent, lawful, high‑quality program administration.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct payment audits, reconcile over/underpayments, and resolve complex financial discrepancies
  • Complete provider compliance visits, review attendance and billing documentation, and guide corrective actions
  • Investigate suspected fraud, improper payments, or policy violations; support administrative hearings as needed
  • Deliver training and technical assistance to childcare providers and internal team members
  • Maintain clear, accurate documentation and work with state partners to resolve program issues
  • Provide excellent customer service with strong verbal and written communication skills

NOTE: This position is not fully remote. The Program Auditor is required to report onsite as scheduled to conduct provider visits, attend team meetings, and perform duties that require in person presence.

Employees may become eligible for a hybrid work schedule after six (6) months of employment, contingent upon performance, reliability, and maintaining good standing within the agency. Hybrid eligibility is not guaranteed and may be adjusted based on operational needs.

Required

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in clerical-accounting or purchasing activities
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted
  • Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume.


Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Experience in childcare subsidy programs, financial analysis, compliance, or human services
  • Proficiency with NC FAST or similar case management systems
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and communication skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex regulations and policies

Hiring Range: 25.79 - 30.08

Market Range: 25.79 - 34.37

Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.
