Be the Next GIS Mapping Technician Driving GIS Solutions for Wake County

As a GIS Mapping Technician on the Customer Service team, you will support both county department and external (non-county) customers through the Helpdesk Ticketing System by responding to requests, performing special project mapping and analysis and updating data. You will support the iMAPS application through testing, documentation and training and collaborate with the GIS E911/Addressing, Property Mapping, System and Applications and Project and Portfolio Management teams on various projects, in support of a wide range of county initiatives.

The selected candidate will work independently to support GIS customers, as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams on a variety of projects.

Key Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To

• Provides first-line GIS support by assessing customer needs, identifying required information (e.g., addressing, ownership, environmental, historical and public safety), maintaining communication with customers and GIS peers, updating incident/request status, meeting SLAs and assisting with helpdesk system administration
• Researches files, records, plats and historical documents for legal descriptions, addressing information and ownership; reads and interprets written documents and updates corresponding information
• Enters data and maps new information, makes necessary map updates, forwards information to appropriate agencies when needed and updates and distributes file copies
• Completes special projects involving geographic data analysis, produces specialized maps and reports and reconciles information from multiple sources to generate accurate maps

Wake County GIS is comprised of 5 teams that is responsible for property, land records, administrative, environmental and service mapping; addressing, Public Safety/E911 support; internal and external customer service support for GIS applications and requests for mapping, geospatial data and analyses; and geospatial applications, infrastructure and integration with other data systems. Required

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

• Associate's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography or related field
• No specific experience required
• Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

• Experience and/or Knowledge in land records
• Experience working in a local government organization
• Experience working independently in ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Online to perform mapping tasks, analysis, and data updates
