Position Available:             English Language Arts/Tier II Intervention Teacher, Wahluke Jr. High School, Gr. 6-8

Reports To:                         Building Principal

Assignment:   To provide both core ELA instruction as well as additional instruction to identified students using District core and supplemental curriculum in core content areas, emphasis on English Language Arts. Use best practice along with, but not limited to, LLI Leveled Literacy Intervention.

Monitor and assess student progress using formative assessments and design appropriate lessons based on student need. Collect and enter student data using prescribed methods. 

Responsible for the learning experience for students; demonstrates knowledge of subject matter, demonstrates competency in instructional skills; informs students of their progress; handles classroom discipline and attendance problems; evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction as a result of the evaluation. Use of technology in the day to day instructional model expected. Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities consistent with state regulations, district policies and procedures and building practices.

  1. Implement state essential learning and district standards
  2. Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter and competency in instructional practices
  3. Informs students of their progress in terms of objectives set for the lesson or study course, handles student classroom discipline and attendance problems.
  4. Implement district curriculum, effectively implement district initiatives.
  5. Implement ELL strategies as needed.
  6. Evaluates in terms of planned goals and revises instruction as a result of the evaluation, makes long and short range plans for each subject area of instruction
  7. Provides for individual differences in the learning needs of students, provides a classroom climate which is based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness and consistency to provide equitable opportunities for success for all students.
  8. Interacts positively with students, professional associates, parents and patrons of the school district
  9. Participates in staff development activities
  10. Refer students for alternative services as provided by the District (ELL, Reading, Special Education, SEL).
  11. Ability to analyze student data to inform instruction.
  12. Attend/supervise student field trips.
  13. Participate in curriculum review and design.
  14. Effectively collaborate with department and grade level teachers.
  15. Implement a variety of effective instructional strategies consistent with lesson objectives.
  16. Diagnose and evaluate student abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
  17. Performs job related, non-teaching duties
  18. Participates as a team member in planning curriculum, instruction and procedures
  19. Ability to take initiative to meet specified goals and outcomes.
  20. Provide guidance and supervise instructional aides if so assigned.
  21. Serve on committees as assigned.
  22. Maintain professional student boundaries.
  23. Remain current on instructional practices in education.  

 Qualifications:

  1. Valid Washington Teaching Certificate, K-8/Elementary Education or English required, ELL Endorsement preferred.
  2. Bilingual Spanish Speaking Preferred.
  3. Successful teaching experience preferred.
  4. Successful experience implementing Study Sync curriculum
  5. Successful experience implementing G.L.A.D., SIOP and/or CM instructional strategies preferred; training helpful. 
  6. Understanding of Whole Brain teaching strategies and successful incorporation into instructional delivery preferred.
  7. Understanding/Knowledge of 5D CEL Instructional Frameworks and ability to incorporate dimensions in daily teaching practices.  
  8. Knowledge of/training in Safe & Civil Schools, PBIS, and/or Character Strong  programs preferred.
  9. Technology proficient or ability to gain proficiency to integrate technology into the instructional delivery and for communications and reporting purposes.
  10. Skills to motivate students, communicate with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds
  11. Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum standards, education code, appropriate instructional subjects.
  12. Ability to instruct students and manage behavior.
  13. Able to work in a calm, efficient, safe manner.
  14. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  15. Able and expected to attend work as scheduled.
  16. Able to model appropriate professional behavior.
  17. Ability to solve practical problems, apply appropriate judgment, and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  18. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student and district records required.
