Associate Producer
Wagner Johnson Productions
Wagner Johnson Productions (WJP) is seeking an Associate Producer to join our team. WJP is a Broadway and commercial theater producing and general management company with an active production slate and a robust development pipeline. This role works closely with our Co-Founders and Producer across investor relations, production logistics, creative development, and day-to-day producing operations.
We're hiring across a range of experience levels—from candidates a few years into a producing or general management career to more seasoned producing professionals ready to take on greater creative and strategic ownership. Responsibilities and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
What You'll Do:
Investor Relations & Fundraising

Support commercial fundraising efforts and investor communications.

Oversee collection of investor funds and fully executed investment paperwork.

Maintain investor databases, fundraising trackers, and reporting systems.

Respond to investor inquiries and coordinate investment documentation.

Organize co-producer events and investor gatherings.

Coordinate ongoing investor communications, including monthly updates and marketing meetings.

Manage K-1 follow-up during tax season.

Prepare conformed signature pages and financing documentation.

For more experienced candidates: negotiate option agreements and development deals with creative teams.
Production & Operational Support

Support production planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Coordinate production logistics, including rehearsal space, travel, housing, and immigration/visa needs.

Coordinate readings, workshops, and other development activities.

Assist with contracts and agreements in collaboration with legal, general management, and accounting teams.

Arrange opening night gifts and company hospitality.

For more experienced candidates: oversee production budgets, financial reporting, payroll coordination, and insurance administration alongside the General Management and finance teams.
Creative Development

Read and evaluate scripts and other creative material.

Attend readings, workshops, rehearsals, previews, and industry presentations.

Track the company's development pipeline and maintain script, talent, and project databases.

Coordinate meetings and industry events.

Collaborate with the Producer and creative teams throughout the development process.

For more experienced candidates: identify new theatrical properties, cultivate relationships with writers, directors, agents, and other artists, provide creative feedback throughout development, and help shape the company's long-term development strategy.
Industry Engagement

Represent Wagner Johnson Productions at readings, workshops, conferences, and industry events.

Build and maintain relationships across the commercial theater community.

Collaborate closely with General Management, Press, Marketing, Legal, Accounting, and production partners.
What We're Looking For:

3 years of experience in commercial theater producing, general management, or a closely related field.

Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects across investor relations, production logistics, and creative development simultaneously.

A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and sound professional judgment.

A genuine passion for theater and curiosity about how new work is developed and produced.

For more senior candidates: demonstrated experience evaluating creative material, negotiating agreements, managing production finances, and overseeing a development pipeline.
Compensation and Benefits:
Salary: $80,000 - $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Full Time, in person based in New York City.
