Duties/Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Respond to all calls for service, which include incidents in progress, fire alarms, medical and aided cases, and render aid as needed.
- Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents and complete written incident reports.
- Perform foot and vehicle patrols throughout campus.
- Parking enforcement. Patrol all campus parking areas on a regular schedule and ensure compliance with accessibility parking plans. Ticket cars in parking areas that are blocking thoroughfares or fire zones and facilitate access to mechanical or towing services as needed.
- Provide accessibility and evening safety transports.
- Enforce campus access control procedures.
- Complete daily log entries providing detailed information on all incidents.
- Maintain first aid proficiency requirements. Assist faculty, staff, students, and guests in basic first aid as needed. Contact emergency medical personnel when necessary.
- Deliver excellent customer service to Wagner College community members, visitors and guests.
Work Experience:
- Knowledge of security and law enforcement procedures and functions.
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar capacity, preferably in a school environment
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, or related field, preferred
- NYS Security Guard License
- NYS Driver’s License
- Fire Safety Guard certifications
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to prepare legible and accurate incident reports.
- Proficient in use of e-mail.
- Must be a team-player, able to work intuitively and independently.
- Strong organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities as situations arise in fast paced environment
- Demonstrated computer experience with Microsoft Office Suite; proficient with Excel
- Proficiency and compliance with radio communication procedure.
- Ability to communicate politely and effectively with the general public.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to engage diverse groups and work across campus populations, including and not limited to, staff, faculty, students, and the general public.
- Tact and diplomacy.
- If hired, employee must be or become a member of the Security Officers Union, Local One, and will be subject to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between the union and Wagner College.
