What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Student Ministry position at Wadsworth United Methodist Church?
Purpose:
To implement, grow and sustain a ministry open to all students (5th -12th grade) and their families, providing a safe, nurturing and relational environment to help students develop as devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
Primary Responsibilities:
- To organize and implement a cohesive discipleship program for youth that promotes growth in Christian faith by sharing the message of Jesus
- Plan and lead weekly youth gatherings, as well as retreats, service projects and outreach events
- Encourage attendance at, and participation in, worship services
- Lead students to discover their God-given purpose
- Offer confirmation classes for students in 7th grade and above as needed
- Facilitate parent/guardian meetings to empower parents/guardians to lead and disciple
- Recruit and train adult volunteers to support student ministry and to help students deepen their faith
- Attend weekly staff meetings and work with the Pastor to plan and evaluate youth ministry initiatives
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, and spiritual beliefs consistent with United Methodist teachings
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer and technology skills
- Proficient in the use of social media platforms
- Ability to respect confidential information
- Must be able to work some evenings and Sundays
- Completion of successful background check
Reporting Relationship- Reports to the Pastor
Working Hours - Part-time position with an average of 20 hours per week
Compensation - $20.00 to $25.00 per hour based on experience
