Physical Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field
- Possession of a valid Professional Educator Certificate in physical education.
- Ability to motivate and inspire students of all abilities.
- Physical stamina and the ability to demonstrate exercises and sports.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature): Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
JOB GOALS: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women and to provide each an opportunity to participate in an athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sports, and the principles of fair play.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
- Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
- Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
- Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
Essential Job Functions:
- Report for duty fifteen minutes before the opening of school and remain fifteen minutes after the close of school.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individuals needs, interests, and abilities of the students. Create engaging lesson plans that promote physical activity and health.
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, and positive attitudes towards physical fitness
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and the capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of district specialists as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and, cooperatively with department heads, evaluates their job performance.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Communicate with parents and guardians about student performance and wellbeing.
- Maintain equipment and ensure a safe, clean environment for physical activities,
- Perform any other pertinent assignment deemed necessary by the principal to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the classroom.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
The environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses. Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times. Physical stamina is required and the ability to demonstrate exercises and sports.
EMPLOYMENT: This is a nine-month contract (187 days). Based on board approved salary schedule.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel.
