Primary Purpose: 
 Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and ability to excel in assigned sports.  Contribute to educational program and to the growth of students involved in athletics.
 
Qualifications:
Education/Certification
Bachelor’s degree
Valid Texas teaching certificate
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
General knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Knowledge of University Interscholastic League (UIL) rules
Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience preferred
Demonstrate leadership in working with diverse students, staff, families and communities. Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certifications. 
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
 
  1. Collaborate with members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the educational development of student athletes.
  2. Assist the head football coach/campus athletic coordinator with the operation and management of the high school football program and the middle school feeder pattern.
  3. Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and media to promote individual growth in football fundamentals, teamwork and good sportsmanship to improve the abilities of student-athletes in the football program.
  4. Assist the head football coach in the areas of supervision and leadership of the professional football staff.
  5. Establish performance criteria for competition.
  6. Regularly evaluate and assess students’ athletic abilities for successful performance of fundamental football skills.
  7. Assist with the coordination of daily administrative support, statistical analysis and opponent preparation in the development of the weekly game plan during the season.
  8. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the coaching program and make changes as needed based on findings.
  9. Assist the head football coach/campus athletic coordinator with the care and maintenance of all campus athletic fields, facilities and equipment including the cleaning/sanitizing, repairing and storage of equipment. Make recommendations for repair and replacement when appropriate.
  10. Keep informed and ensure compliance with all UIL rules. Monitor and enforce UIL/Waco ISD student eligibility criteria for athletic participation.
  11. Promote scholastic excellence in the football program.
  12. Work with the head football coach/campus athletic coordinator and district middle school coordinator to schedule athletic competitions and coordinate travel arrangements.
  13. Accompany and supervise student athlete during athletic competitions in assigned       sports on all trips.
  14. Instruct and advise students on NCAA rules and regulations with regard to academic requirements/eligibility for scholarships and recruiting practices.
  15. Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions and in the school environment in accordance with the Waco ISD student code of conduct and the student handbook.
  16. Encourage by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
  17. Establish and maintain open communication with all stakeholders.
  18. Work with the head football coach and the football staff to maximize the performance of all participants in the middle school feeder pattern.
  19. Student Growth and Development Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  20. Assume responsibility for approved extracurricular activities or outside activities for which you are the sponsor.
  21. Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  22. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  23. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  24. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  25. Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  26. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  27. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  28. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  29. Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting, and possible jogging/running. Frequent district wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.  Exposure to outdoor weather conditions including rain, sun, heat, and cold.
