Primary Purpose:
Train and provide work direction to utility workers. Perform a variety of responsible maintenance, grounds and custodial duties related to maintaining and repairing District buildings, facilities and grounds. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED certificate
Valid Texas driver's license
Must be eligible to drive based on the Texas DPS School Transportation Guidelines
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions and the ability to communicate effectively
Demonstrated competency in building custodial maintenance and personnel
Ability to operate cleaning equipment and properly handle cleaning supplies
Ability to assign and review the work of others and train and provide work direction of others
Use specialized cleaning equipment and supplies safely and efficiently
Ability to meet schedules and time lines
Experience:
Two (2) years experience in the custodial field
Supervisory experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform a variety of general maintenance and custodial duties related to maintenance and repair of District facilities, grounds and buildings.
- Train, assign, monitor and provide work direction to assigned utility workers and campus custodians.
- Recommend general maintenance and custodial needs to appropriate personnel. Inspect building(s) daily, perform general maintenance and repairs or recommend general maintenance and custodial needs and repairs to appropriate personnel according to established procedures.
- Operate a variety of cleaning equipment and hand tools used in custodial services.
- Provide instruction and training in the proper operation and maintenance of custodial equipment in adherence to District guidelines for cleanliness, sanitation, and safety.
- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Substitute for the head custodian, lead custodian, or custodial helpers as assigned by the Custodial Services Supervisor.
- Oversee the opening, closing, and securing of all buildings maintained; operate climate control equipment to sustain the proper temperature in all parts of the building.
- Support, monitor and provide direction to lead custodian(s).
- Ensure that proper supplies are on hand and maintain inventory.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report and conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
- Render special services for students, staff, and patrons at the direction of the principal or Supervisor of Custodial Services.
- Demonstrate ability to work with others in a positive productive manner.
- Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers in buildings on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Assist in custodial district wide training program for both new hires and existing employees.
- Serve as technical consultant to all District personnel.
- Maintain and stay current with new custodial supplies and equipment.
- Lead summer and stadium work crews as assigned by Custodial Services management.
- Assign and create work orders on the Brightly system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Custodians, Lead Custodians, Utility Workers, Custodial Temp Pool (Sub)
Equipment Used:
Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric drill, mop, broom, carpet extractor, carpet shampooer, ladder (up to 12ft.), and any equipment associated with custodial trades.
Working Conditions:
Tobacco Free, Gun Free, Drug Free
Must be willing to work flexible hours, including extended, irregular hours and on-call.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Administrative office and campus environment, high pressure, fast pace, multiple deadlines and people intensive. Frequent interruptions. Strenuous standing, stooping, walking, climbing ladders, bending, pushing and pulling, must be physically fit and able to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Working indoors, outdoors, in extreme temperatures including hot and cold temperature swings, inclement weather, around and exposed to dust, chemicals (herbicides and fertilizer), loud noises, and working on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Frequent district wide travel.
