Primary Purpose:     

Plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of athletic training programs for student athletes. Working under the direction and supervision of the team physician to carry out activities in the following areas: prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. It is a unique, high-mobility role designed to bridge the gap between middle school athletics and high school standards of care. Housed at the WISD Stadium alongside the District Athletic Directors, this individual serves as the primary medical provider for middle school student-athletes. Will provide rapid response, injury prevention, and clinical evaluation across all middle school campuses, while also supporting large-scale events hosted at the high school facilities and the WISD Stadium. 

Qualifications:           

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree 
Valid license from Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers
Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to provide injury care, prevention and rehabilitation services
Ability to provide emergency care for athletic injuries
Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and their protocols
Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and assistants
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

Two years experience as an athletic trainer preferred

 Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Assess, recognize and evaluate all middle school athletic injuries.
  2. Maintain a consistent schedule visiting all WISD middle school campuses for scheduled "training room hours" to evaluate injuries and monitor rehabilitation.
  3. Promptly provide proper emergency care for injuries; refer serious injuries to a physician; cooperate with physicians in carrying out treatments and rehabilitation of injured athletes; approve the injured athlete's return to active participation when the physician is not present.
  4. Compile and maintain files that include current physical examination (UIL PPE) by a physician, written releases, injury reports and other notes for each middle school athlete. Maintain accurate, digital medical records for all MS student-athletes using the district's preferred Rank One software.
  5. Coordinate with parents and local physicians to ensure a seamless "Return to Play" protocol.
  6. Comply with policies established by federal and state law (UIL, OSHA statute 41,2791), State Board of Education rule and the local Board of Trustees..
  7. Maintain good standing with the Texas Department Licensing and Regulations.
  8. Improve leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities.
  9. Assist the Athletic Director in developing all bids for athletic equipment and medical supplies.
  10. Maintain inventory on all athletic equipment and medical supplies received and distributed throughout the District.
  11. Manage the mobile athletic training kit and oversee the inventory of medical supplies distributed to MS campuses. Maintain all middle school medical kits throughout the season.
  12. Assist in training district coaches in CPR and First-Aid annually.
  13. Must have reliable transportation to travel between the Stadium and various school sites throughout the workday.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Work with frequent interruptions. Continual walking and standing; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.  Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside.  Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; High level of organizational skill to manage a "roving" schedule across multiple venues. Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.  Use of Dell and Macintosh computers and related equipment, copier, fax machine, and cellular phone.
