Primary Purpose:
Provide and facilitate training, instructional support, and curriculum guidance to teachers, instructional specialists, and district coaches under the direction of the Director of Professional Development.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, Master's preferred Valid Texas teaching certificate
Certified T-TESS Appraiser (Preferred)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Excellent teaching skills
Knowledge of assigned curriculum (grades K-12 TEKS), state assessment objectives, state accountability, and best practices for instruction
Knowledge of academic and/or behavior interventions and implementation Evidence of leadership skills
Strong organizational, communication (written and oral), and interpersonal skills Demonstrated knowledge of best practices for adult learning
Experience
Five years of experience and demonstrated proficiency as a classroom teacher. Demonstrated knowledge and application of effective supervisory practices and/or supervisory experience.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Support the development and implementation of curriculum documents and processes including facilitating the development of curriculum maps and helping with development of assessments aligned to the curriculum while working under the direction of the Director of Professional Development and the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.
- Plan and conduct professional development in the assigned area, curriculum, instruction, assessment, recent research, current educational trends and other topics as needed as part of campus and/or the district's professional development program under the direction of the Director of Professional Development and the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning.
- Identify problems of practice and create and implement targeted action plans to address areas of focus.
- Demonstrate best practices of TEKS-based instruction, including the effective use of technology, as appropriate.
- Facilitate district horizontal and vertical meetings of teachers.
- Provide feedback to teachers and campus leadership teams on the implementation of curriculum and successful strategies in the classroom.
- Analyze district and state assessment data to support working with teachers and Teaching and Learning Specialists to address instructional concerns.
- Participate as a member of the curriculum department, assisting with implementation of TEKS- based instruction in assigned content area.
- Mentor and/or coach campus Teaching and Learning Specialists and teachers as requested by campus and district administration.
- Support initiatives found in the WISD District and Campus Improvement Plans as appropriate.
- Support carrying out district initiatives in their entirety.
- Monitor the implementation of district initiatives both at the district and campus levels.
- Support the campus Teaching and Learning Specialist in the implementation of appropriate interventions under the direction of the Executive Director of Intervention/State and Federal Programs.
- Support the process of resource selection aligned with district initiatives, textbook adoption, and the instructional needs of the district under the direction of the Director for Professional Development and the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.
- Develop and maintain professional competence through professional growth activities based on recent research, current trends in education, and personal and professional problems of practice.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with principals, colleagues, students, and supervisors.
- Attend and lead curriculum department meetings as scheduled or requested.
- Be a positive conduit to message and support the work of the District and the Teaching and Learning Department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
