The ideal candidate has lived experience with substance use recovery and/or co-occurring mental health challenges and is passionate about using that experience to support others. This position uses a person-centered, harm-reduction approach to meet individuals where they are, build trusting relationships, and help them navigate their individual recovery pathways.
What You Will Do
- Provide on-site peer recovery support at designated community locations, including jails, shelters, clinics, libraries, treatment centers, housing programs, and other community partner sites. Build supportive, trusting relationships using lived experience and peer-support best practices. Provide emotional support, practical assistance, harm-reduction resources, and recovery navigation. Connect individuals with appropriate recovery and community resources. Collaborate with WVRC staff and community partners to coordinate services and support. Maintain participant confidentiality and appropriate professional and ethical boundaries. Complete required documentation accurately and on time. Participate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing training. Represent WVRC positively and professionally throughout the community.
Required Qualifications

Commitment to treating individuals with dignity, compassion, and respect. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between community partner locations. Basic computer and documentation skills. Valid driver’s license. Understanding that working in recovery does not replace maintaining your own personal recovery. Willingness to receive feedback and use it to grow professionally.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience providing peer support in a community or mobile setting is preferred. Familiarity with local community resources and social services is beneficial, as is knowledge of trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and harm-reduction practices.
Why Join WVRC
This position provides an opportunity to use your lived experience to make a meaningful difference in your community. You’ll work alongside recovery professionals and community partners to reduce barriers, increase access to support, and help individuals identify recovery pathways that work for them.
