SUMMARY

Under limited supervision, Paramedics respond to emergency incidents as dispatched, manages emergency scenes, treats, stabilizes, and transports patients, safely operates emergency vehicles to/from the scene, all in accordance with Wabash Township Fire Department Emergency Medical Service ALS and BLS Protocols and under medical director supervision. Paramedics also respond to and participate in fire suppression activities helping to support the Mission/Vision/Values of the Wabash Township Fire Department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide basic and advanced life support to patients following established policies, protocols and guidelines as authorized by the medical director and the Wabash Township Fire Department.
  • Participate in fire suppression activities as assigned and qualified, including but not limited to: assisting with stretching hose lines in a safe zone, carrying ground ladders and small tools, assisting with hydrant operations, coordinating rapid intervention teams from an exterior position, and managing personnel accountability on scene.
  • Participate in rescue operations as assigned including but not limited to: locating and removal of occupants from unsafe vehicles, rescue ropes, harnesses, stabilization devices, patient hoisting and handling devices
  • Maintain knowledge of locations of roadways, properties, buildings and facilities in assigned fire district
  • Maintain department vehicles and equipment as directed including but not limited to: refueling vehicles, reporting mechanical concerns, washing department vehicles and hand tools, drying and reloading fire hose, etc. ensuring a state of readiness.
  • Safely operate department vehicles, apparatus and other emergency equipment
  • Writes reports for related emergency activities, and reports concerning the use and condition of apparatus, related equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain facilities and perform housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Maintains emergency response (Fire/EMS) certifications as required by the Wabash Township Fire Department.
  • Serve as a representative of Wabash Township, demonstrating a positive attitude and progressive actions through the display of professionalism, courtesy, and appropriate tact and discretion in all interactions with other employees and with the public.
  • Assist/supports Inspection & Prevention divisions as assigned including: pre-planning activities, company-level building fire inspections, public education programs, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a valid Indiana Driver’s License
  • Must possess current State of Indiana Paramedic Licensure and/or current National Registry EMT-P certification (with eligibility for Indiana reciprocity)
  • Current/Active CPR Certification
  • Ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with peers, superiors, other Township departments, subordinates, vendors, contractors, external government agencies and organizations.
  • Strong communication skills, both orally and in writing.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain knowledge of current Wabash Township Fire Department ALS/BLS Guidelines.
  • Maintain knowledge of Wabash Township Fire Department’s Standard Operating Procedures/Guidelines.
  • Ability to manage personnel on emergency scenes.
  • Must maintain a valid ALS Provider certification/licensure.
  • Must maintain a valid ACLS Provider certification.
  • Must maintain a valid PALS Provider certification.
  • Must write and maintain accurate patient care records.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Works and responds rapidly in all weather conditions.
  • Works based out of a firehouse where staff sleep, eat, train, and remain on duty during shifts that last 24 hours.
  • Work in various indoor settings, including living quarters and office areas
  • Hazardous tasks performed under emergency conditions may require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as: Limited visibility, Exposure to hazardous or toxic chemicals or gases, Extremes in temperatures, Cramped surroundings, Contact with death, emotional stress, trauma, contagious disease and terminal illness.
  • Exposure to extreme heat, contaminated environments, emotionally upset people, noise, physical hazards from traffic, fire and falling objects, as well as atmospheric conditions such as smoke, fumes odors and gases.
  • May be required to communicate clearly in noisy and stressful situations.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Works and responds rapidly in all weather conditions.
  • Staff is based out of a firehouse where they sleep, eat, train, and remain on duty during shifts that last 24 hours.
  • Wears prescribed uniform which includes, during emergency operations, personal protective equipment which may weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Works in stressful/dangerous situations that are physically and mentally demanding.
  • Requires awareness of safety for self and others.

Pay: $75,854.00 - $79,152.00 per year
