Position Summary

The Director of Youth Development is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of all youth development programs including day camp and food service at the YMCA. This role ensures program excellence, staff leadership, and alignment with the YMCA's mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Essential Outcomes & Responsibilities

  • Attendance and Schedule. This position requires on-site presence and a flexible schedule to accommodate program hours and participation in weekend special events as needed.
  • Budget and Resources. Manage program budgets and fee collection to ensure fiscal goals are met.
  • Collaboration. Work as part of the Program Operations Team to set goals, develop strategies, and innovate programs.
  • Compliance. Ensure all staff and volunteers complete the necessary screening processes.
  • Community Engagement. Foster relationships with local community groups, participate in community events to raise program awareness, and support YMCA fundraising efforts.
  • Daily Operations. Direct the daily operations of Before & After School Programs, School Days Out Programs, Summer Child Care, Youth Development Programs, Summer Food Program, School Year Food Program
  • Facility Coordination. Oversee the scheduling and use of facilities for various activities and events.
  • Financial Administration. Process invoices, check requests, credit card reconciliation, and expense reports promptly and accurately.
  • Grant Compliance. Ensure all grant requirements are met by auditing grants throughout the grant cycle, maintaining accurate reporting, and meeting submission deadlines.
  • Inventory Management. Maintain accurate records of equipment, conduct inspections, and manage supplies within budget constraints.
  • Safety Enforcement. Ensure the safety of children and adults while assisting in maintaining a clean and safe facility.
  • Staff Management. Recruit, mentor, supervise, schedule, and evaluate staff and volunteers. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve organizational goals.
  • General Duties. Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or three (3) years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience in supervision, budgeting, and program design/management preferred.
  • Grant writing experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate and relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Ability to exercise discriminating and independent judgment.
  • Proficient computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office, program software, and social media preferred.
  • Completion of all required YMCA training within 90 days of hire.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and drug screen.

  • Lift and move equipment and supplies for program setup.
  • Clear close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain constant alertness while supervising participants.
  • Ability to hear sounds and distress signals within the assigned area.
  • Typical work environment has a moderate noise level.
