Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness (WPHW) is growing, and we are excited to be adding new people to our team!  If you value inclusivity, balance, and cultural centeredness and have a true passion for serving others, you may be a great fit for our team!  WPHW is a non-profit organization that serves four federally recognized tribes located in five communities:  the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Aroostook Band of Mi'kmaq, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point, and the Penobscot Nation.  Wabanaki traditions, language, and culture guide our approach and describe the ways we live in harmony with each other and the land we collectively share.  Services are available to community members living on and off-reservation across the State of Maine.

Position Summary:

The purpose of the Public Health Research Administrator position is to support Wabanaki Center for Knowledge and Innovation and WPHW programs by developing, overseeing, and managing evidence-based public health research and data activities, and adapting these practices to facilitate development of Indigenous frameworks and methods. This includes guiding the design of data collection tools and activities; guiding the development of quantitative data analysis; and building organizational and community capacity for research and evaluation. This position will also ensure that grant goals and milestones are achieved, and relationships with funding institutions and communities are maintained. The successful candidate will have experience with secure and ethically sound data storage procedures; experience with research methods with historically diverse, underserved, and/or underrepresented communities; and will demonstrate capacity for cultural humility and competence.


Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Develop and manage procedures, processes, and templates for collection, analysis, and interpretation of evaluation, program performance, and surveillance data. 
    • Develop and manage processes and templates for quantitative and qualitative data cleaning, analysis, triangulation, and interpretation.
    • Coordinate analysis activities with IRB/RRB as required.
    • Monitor progress of research and data analysis activities; prepare progress reports as required by administration, funders, and/or regulatory bodies.
    • Guide activities to maintain records of research activities, methodologies, analysis plans, and results.
    • Ensure implementation WPHW quality control processes throughout research and data coordination activities.
  • Attend required training, team and division meetings.
  • Coordinate activities related to appropriate public health grant opportunities.
    • Ensure research related grant objectives are being met.
    • Oversee research coordinator activities.
    • Coordinate with necessary stakeholders internal to WPHW and external on research activities.
    • Assist with recruitment of surveyors and other external partners.
  • Manage research and data activities throughout the grant life cycle to ensure.
    • Timeliness of research and data activities and phases.
    • Research and Data activities are performed with fidelity to analysis methodologies.
    • Wabanaki community priorities, cultural values, and data sovereignty are respected and reflected in all phases of evaluation.
    • Relationship maintenance with funders and communities.
  • Support community-based meetings and events, as directed.
  • Attend public health trainings and research-based trainings, as needed.
  • Participate in other research related work as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience Required:

  • Master’s degree in public health or other related fields (i.e., epidemiology, health policy, environmental health, biostatistics, health education and promotion). PhD preferred. 
  • At least four (4) years of work experience in public health, health, education, youth-serving profession, or a related field.
  • Experience with Stata, Atlas.TI, Tableau, PowerBI, R, SPSS, SQL preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook.

  

    Skills and Qualifications Required:  

    • Experience working in Tribal Communities is preferred.
    • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
    • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
    • The ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently 
    • A strong work ethic and enthusiasm
    • Willingness to travel with some overnights for trainings, meetings, gatherings, and events.
    • Must pass criminal background check.
