Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager / Materials Manager to oversee procurement, strategic sourcing, vendor management, and inventory control within a manufacturing or metal fabrication environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience purchasing steel, sheet metal, tubing, and other metals, negotiating supplier contracts, controlling material costs, and ensuring timely material availability to support production schedules. Customer service experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

• Source and purchase raw materials, including steel, sheet metal, structural tubing, metal components, and hardware.
• Develop and maintain relationships with metals suppliers, distributors, and service centers.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost savings and reliable supply.
• Forecast material requirements in coordination with production and operations teams.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure materials are available to prevent production delays.
• Create, process, track, and reconcile purchase orders using ERP/MRP systems.
• Monitor supplier performance, pricing, lead times, and material availability.
• Coordinate with quality teams to review material certifications and resolve supplier quality issues or shipment discrepancies.
• Track incoming shipments and coordinate deliveries to meet production requirements.
• Analyze purchasing costs, inventory data, and supplier performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Communicate with suppliers and internal departments to resolve purchasing, delivery, and material-related issues.
• Support customer service activities when needed, including order-related communication and coordination.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or materials management within manufacturing or metal fabrication.
• Hands-on experience purchasing metals, particularly steel, sheet metal, tubing, or related raw materials.
• Strong knowledge of metal suppliers, distributors, sourcing practices, and material procurement.
• Experience negotiating supplier pricing, contracts, and delivery terms.
• Experience managing purchase orders, inventory levels, and material availability.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
• Ability to work on-site in Pottstown, PA, Monday through Friday.
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related technical field.
• Experience in metal fabrication, CNC manufacturing, industrial manufacturing, or metal distribution.
• Knowledge of steel grades, material specifications, material certifications, and raw material tracking.
• Experience with cost analysis, inventory optimization, and supplier performance management.
• Customer service experience, particularly in a manufacturing, metals, distribution, or industrial environment.
• Experience coordinating with production, quality, logistics, and sales teams.
