Key Responsibilities
Capital Project Planning & Development
- Identify, evaluate, and prioritize capital improvement projects based on operational needs, asset condition, safety considerations, and strategic business goals.
- Conduct feasibility studies, preliminary engineering evaluations, cost estimates, return-on-investment (ROI) analyses, and risk assessments.
- Develop project charters, preliminary designs, scopes of work, and capital funding requests for leadership approval.
- Lead capital projects through all phases, including initiation, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final closeout.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans to ensure timely and cost-effective execution.
- Coordinate internal resources and cross-functional teams to support project milestones and minimize operational disruptions.
- Manage external contractors, vendors, and engineering consultants to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Oversee procurement of materials, equipment, and services in accordance with company policies and capital approval processes.
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction progress, workmanship quality, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Manage an annual capital budget of approximately $1-1.25 million.
- Track project costs, review and approve invoices, and maintain accurate financial documentation.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value-engineering solutions without compromising quality, performance, or safety.
- Prepare and present regular project status updates, schedules, and financial reports to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, change orders, risk registers, meeting minutes, and closeout reports.
- Ensure all capital projects are properly documented for audit, compliance, and future reference.
- Coordinate closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure smooth integration of new equipment, systems, or facility upgrades.
- Support commissioning activities and transition projects into ongoing operations.
- Promote a continuous improvement mindset by incorporating lessons learned and best practices into future capital projects.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Industrial, or related discipline).
- 3-7 years of experience in project engineering, capital project management, or related roles.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple capital projects simultaneously.
- Experience working in manufacturing, industrial facilities, utilities, or similar environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of project management principles, including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Proven ability to manage contractors, vendors, and engineering firms.
- Proficiency with project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera, or similar software.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or other design and drafting software.
