Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Crew Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of grading crews on construction sites
- Assign work tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure project milestones are met
- Train crew members on jobsite procedures, equipment operation, and safety standards
- Maintain records of crew hours, materials used, and equipment utilization
- Interpret construction plans, specifications, and grading layouts
- Coordinate grading operations and site preparation activities
- Sequence work activities to maintain efficient workflow across the jobsite
- Operate grading equipment when necessary and oversee equipment operations
- Monitor equipment usage and ensure proper operation according to company procedures
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, cleaning, and minor equipment repairs
- Ensure grading equipment and jobsite tools remain operational and safe
- Enforce jobsite safety policies and regulatory compliance
- Implement accident prevention strategies and corrective actions when necessary
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal construction safety regulations
- Promote a safety-first culture among crew members and subcontractors
- Communicate daily work progress with project management and other foremen
- Coordinate with subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders
- Support scheduling of materials, labor, and equipment for project needs
- 3 years of experience as a Grading Foreman or similar supervisory role in heavy civil or highway construction
- Strong knowledge of grading operations, site preparation, and earthwork
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Experience supervising construction crews and coordinating field activities
- Valid Driver's License with clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and active construction environments
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience with underground utility work and pipe installation (preferred but not required)
- Familiarity with GPS grading technology
- Certifications such as Erosion Control Level I or II, Trenching & Excavation Competent Person, or Work Zone Safety Supervisor
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work on construction sites for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 90 pounds when necessary
