Established in 1987, the firm is a mid-sized law firm with five offices throughout Virginia and Tennessee. The firm continues to expand its insurance defense practice and seeks attorneys who desire to work in a fast-paced, professional environment while serving clients.

Job Description

• Represent insurance carriers and their insureds in liability defense matters from case inception through resolution.
• Handle all phases of State and Federal general civil litigation.
• Concentration on property, casualty, and coverage matters.
• Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs.
• Conduct depositions of plaintiffs, witnesses, and medical experts.
• Prepare for and appear at hearings, trials, settlement conferences, and mediations.
• Analyze liability exposure and medical/legal issues.
• Develop cost-effective defense strategies.
• Work with clients, claims adjusters, and medical professionals regarding risk, liability, and settlement posture.
• Manage an active caseload and meet statutory and litigation deadlines.
• Track and manage billable hours.
  
  

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active Virginia Bar membership required.
• 3-5 years of liability insurance defense experience.
• Deposition experience.
• Experience drafting and arguing pretrial motions.
• Experience working with expert witnesses and appearing at hearings.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• Strong academic background.
• Ability to independently manage deadlines and responsibilities.
