Qualifications
- 1-3 years of litigation experience, preferably in workers' compensation defense.
- Active membership and good standing with the California Bar Association.
- Strong knowledge of workers' compensation law; ability to identify issues across other legal areas a plus.
- Exceptional legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Effective time management and organizational abilities to manage a busy caseload.
- Demonstrated judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Technologically proficient and comfortable with case management systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Defend workers' compensation claims for benefits, including medical, disability, impairment, and increased benefits under LC 132a.
- Litigate issues involving coverage and employment defenses.
- Manage all aspects of litigation, including discovery, depositions, trials, arbitrations, liens, and settlement negotiations.
- Prepare pleadings, briefs, and other legal documents in response to claims.
- Appear at hearings before the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
- Conduct case evaluations, develop case strategies, and recommend plans of action.
- Perform legal research and provide analysis to support case preparation.
- Communicate with clients regularly regarding case status, updates, and strategy.
- Handle administrative duties associated with case management.
