Position Summary
Responsible for overseeing daily operations of a precision gear manufacturing cell, ensuring production of high-quality aerospace components in compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry standards. Leads a team of machinists and technicians while driving safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Plan and schedule production to meet delivery targets
- Optimize workflow, machine utilization, and throughput
- Oversee gear manufacturing processes (hobbing, shaping, grinding)
- Coordinate with Engineering, Planning, and Quality to resolve issues
- Ensure proper documentation and material traceability
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 10-20 employees
- Conduct performance reviews and support training initiatives
- Drive communication across shifts and promote team accountability
- Ensure compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, and customer requirements
- Review inspections and lead root cause & corrective actions (CAPA)
- Support audits, customer inspections, and regulatory standards (FAA, ITAR)
- Enforce OSHA and safety standards; lead incident investigations
- Drive Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma initiatives
- Track KPIs (OTD, scrap, cycle time, efficiency) and improve performance
- 5 years in gear manufacturing or aerospace machining
- 2 years in a supervisory/lead role
- Strong knowledge of gear cutting (hobbing, shaping, grinding)
- Proficient in GD&T and engineering drawings (ASME Y14.5)
- Experience with AS9100 / ISO 9001 and ERP/MRP systems
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills
- Degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering or related field
- AGMA certification, NADCAP experience
- Lean / Six Sigma certification
- Experience with CMM and gear inspection systems
- Exposure to aerospace/defense programs
- Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, fluids, and machinery
- Standing for extended periods; lifting up to 50 lbs
- PPE required; occasional overtime/weekends
