Job Overview

The DPS is responsible for the overall direction of hospice clinical services. The DPS establishes, implements, and evaluates goals and objectives for hospice services that meet and promote the standards of quality and contribute to the total agency and philosophy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinates and oversees all direct and indirect patient services provided by clinical agency

personnel.

2. Coordinates and assists the interdisciplinary team in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Leads Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) meeting.

3. Assists Clinical Managers with oversight of clinical teams.

4. Processes EMR workflow timely.

5. Participates in the administrative on-call rotation.

6. Assists the Administrator in the administration of the agency's budget.

7. Interprets operational indicators to detect census changes and increases or decreases in volume that could impact staffing levels, revenues, or expenses.

8. Participates in the hiring and ongoing evaluation of agency personnel.

9. Oversees the maintenance of patient clinical records, statistics, reports, and records for purposes of evaluation and reporting of agency activities.

10. Oversees supply management, including office inventory and supplies related to the provision of patient care.

11. Responsible for the orientation of new agency personnel, directly or delegated.

12. Plans and implements in-service and continuing education programs to meet the education and training needs of agency personnel.

13. Assists with the evaluation of agency performance through the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Program to assure delivery of high-quality hospice services.

14. Assures compliance with all local, state, and federal laws regarding licensure and certification of the agency personnel and maintains compliance with the ACHC Hospice standards and company policies and procedures.

15. Promotes hospice referrals in the health care community.

16. In the absence of the Administrator, the Director of Patient Services will become the acting

Administrator and will be vested with the authority to act on behalf of the Administrator as approved by the Governing Body.

17. Other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

18. Must adhere to the company attendance and reliability guidelines, which are an essential function of the job to ensure quality and consistent patient care.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Registered nurse in the State with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the working state.

Registered nurse with a baccalaureate or higher degree in nursing preferred or other health-related field with three years of experience within the last five years in a hospice or home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was a supervisory or administrative role capacity; or a registered nurse with four years experience within the last five years in a hospice or home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility, at least one year of which was in a supervisory or administrative capacity. (Health and Safety Code (HSC) section 1748(b); Standards of Quality Hospice Care (SQHC), 2005, section 5.3)

Demonstrates autonomy, agency, assertiveness, flexibility, and cooperation in performing job

responsibilities.

Demonstrates the ability to deal effectively with patients, families, physicians, community resources, and general public.

EMR experience preferred.

Maintains current state driver’s license and auto insurance.

Maintains current CPR certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. The ability to sit occasionally for 1-3 hours.

2. The ability to frequently stand for 3-6 hours.

3. The ability to occasionally drive/ operate foot control for 1-3 hours.

4. The ability to walk intermittently on level and or unlevel surface for less than 1 hour.

5. The ability to intermittently bend or climb for less than 1 hour.

6. The ability to occasionally twist, kneel, crouch and crawl for 1-3 hours.

7. The ability to lift 50 pounds frequently for 3-6 hours.

8. The ability to lift greater than 50 pounds occasionally for 1-3 hours.

9. The ability to carry up to 50 pounds frequently for 3-6 hours.

10. The ability to carry greater than 50 pounds occasionally for 1-3 hours.

11. The ability to push up to 50 pounds frequently for 3-6 hours.

12. The ability to push greater than 50 pounds occasionally for 1-3 hours.

13. The ability to pull up to 50 pounds frequently for 3-6 hours.

14. The ability to pull greater than 50 pounds occasionally for 1-3 hours.

Pay: $115,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
