Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role based in Portage, MI, for a Controller. The Controller will oversee all financial operations within the company, including the management of accounting processes, financial reporting, compliance, and budgeting. They will analyze financial data, prepare accurate financial statements, and provide strategic insights to support business decision-making. Additional responsibilities include supervising accounting staff, maintaining controls, and ensuring adherence to financial regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all accounting operations, including month-end and year-end close, with a strong emphasis on construction-specific financial workflows
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory standards, and construction best practices
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting tailored to construction project cycles
- Collaborate with leadership to guide financial strategy and support project profitability
- Optimize use of construction accounting software (e.g., Spectrum) to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy
- Oversee audits, internal controls, and job cost accounting
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred but not required)
- 7 years of senior-level accounting and/or finance experience is required
- 5 years minimum of construction industry experience is required
- Proven expertise in construction accounting, including job costing, WIP schedules, and contract billing
- Strong leadership and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel capabilities
- Hands-on experience with Spectrum or similar construction accounting platforms
