Build your career as a Skilled Trades Apprentice with Schultz Construction. No previous construction experience is required. Our growing apprenticeship program offers paid, on-the-job training alongside experienced crews, structured classroom instruction, and wage increases as you progress. Choose a path in equipment operation, construction labor, or carpentry while helping build treatment plants, pump stations, bridges, underground utilities, and other heavy civil infrastructure. Projects are located throughout the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, Central New York, and Massachusetts, and travel to project locations is required.
Responsibilities- Learn your chosen trade through hands-on work with experienced tradespeople and structured classroom instruction.
- Follow safe work practices, communicate with crew members, and contribute to project work as you develop your skills.
- Equipment Operator Apprentice: Learn to operate equipment for excavation, grading, lifting, and material handling; perform equipment inspections and basic maintenance checks; and learn site layouts and safe communication with ground crews.
- Carpenter Apprentice: Learn to read plans, measure and cut materials, and build, install, and remove concrete forms and temporary structures.
- Travel to different project locations as needed and perform physically demanding outdoor work.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Equipment Operator - 21 years and older.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project locations and perform physically demanding work outdoors.
- Dependability, a willingness to learn and work hard, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment substance screening, as required by applicable state and federal regulations.
- No previous construction experience required. Trade school education or experience in construction, equipment operation, carpentry, mechanical work, or another hands-on field is preferred, but not required.
This is a paid apprenticeship with wage increases as you progress. Prevailing wages and supplemental benefits apply on qualifying public projects.
